Reading Ambassadors

We are thrilled to introduce our newly appointed ! These dedicated pupils have been chosen to help foster a love of reading across our school. As Reading Ambassadors, they will encourage their peers, support reading activities, and promote a positive reading culture within and beyond the classroom. Be on the lookout for our ambassadors at school events, in the library, and sharing their favourite books with classmates. Congratulations to each of them – we can’t wait to see the wonderful ways they’ll inspire us all to read more!
TT Rockstars and NumBots Tea Parties

TT Rockstars & NumBots Tea Parties We celebrated all our wonderful maths fluency on the last day of term. We had to have four tea parties in order to make sure we could fit everyone in! Remember to go on NumBots or TT Rockstars in order to learn your number facts (or speed up how quickly you can recall them) and then you too could come along to a tea party! Well done to all that attended this week for your showing dedication to their learning.
Forty Hall Farm Visit

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their recent trip to Forty Hall Farm! The children learned many interesting facts about farming and local wildlife, exploring the beautiful grounds and seeing how the farm operates. They also had plenty of fun playing and enjoying the fresh air on the historic estate. A memorable day for everyone!
Y2 Colombia Class Magical Music

Magical Music Colombia Class invited their parents and carers and siblings to come and share in their music lesson so they gathered an insight into how much we love our music at Alexandra. They even got to have a go themselves and the lesson ended with everyone performing 'Lean On Me' in unison. Well done everyone!
Y6 Pendarren Trip

The children have had a restful night following all their activities yesterday. This morning they built shelters during their bush craft activity. They also built camp fire and did some cooking. The final activity is toasting apples on the camp fire!!! All the children have had an amazing fun packed week and have gained lots of self confidence!! Please see photos of their activities for yesterday and today. ay.
Y6 Pendarren Trip

The children really enjoyed looking for crabs and fish at Caswell Bay yesterday. Their confidence had grown over these few days and looking forward to their activities today. They will be having their disco night tonight.

The children had a delightful day yesterday following their river study from source, through a cave to a wonderful waterfalls. Wet wellies!! They really enjoyed the experience of climbing and canoeing. Today the children are off to Caswell Bay and will be playing games and looking for crabs and fish.

All the children slept very and have enjoyed their breakfast. Their activities today includes; climbing and canoeing, River study and caving.
Year 2 Art

Surreal Year 2 In Art, Year 2 have been studying portraits this half term, in particular the surreal portraits created by Pablo Picasso. We have had lots of opportunities to have creative fun while we explored charcoal, chalk and chalk pastels and used blending and smudging techniques. We have used our knowledge of chalk pastels to create our own portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso. We had a lot of fun creating them.
Y6 Pendarren trip

The children and the adults arrived safely in Pendarren. After they have had lunch, the group went mountain walking to Blorenge mountain and they all had a great fun!
Plant Fostering for Y5 and Y6

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic time learning about plants and how to care for them this term! Each child was given the opportunity to nurture their very own bulb, which they are excited to take home and watch grow. In the spring, the children will return with their thriving plants to help create a beautiful green space by planting them at Wood Green Common. A huge thank you to Black Roots for making this wonderful experience possible!
Year 2 Seaside Trip

Year 2 Seaside Fun Year 2 visited Southend on Sea to explore the beach. This was part of their geography learning but also a chance to celebrate their brilliant learning all year. When we first arrived, we set up on the beach and immediately started paddling in the freezing cold sea, creating sand castles and sculptures and searching for rocks and shells. Then, we enjoyed our lunch sitting on the sand. After that, we went to enjoy the playground on the sand. What a brilliant day we had!
Circus Time for Colombia Class Year 2

The children in Colombia Class had great fun learning circus skills.
We Are Sculptors

In Art, Year 2 are focusing on sculptures this half term. In our first lesson, we used coloured paper to create our own sculptures. Do you like them?
Red Nose Day

On Friday 15th March we celebrated Red Nose Day with crazy hair day! Well done to everyone for your creativity in your hair styles. We also held our first ever Alexandra Bake Off. Well done to Miss Joseph who took home the title of Star Baker!
World Book Day Celebration

This week we have been celebrating World Book Day, the chance to be immersed in books and reading in all its forms. It allows us to appreciate that reading can transport us to different worlds and universes and allow us to marvel at the world around us, both real and imaginary. Staff and children at Alexandra Primary School dressed up as characters from a range of books and comics to help us celebrate together the beauty of books and the joy of reading.
Maths Tea Party

Our Tea Party for Maths Here we are at our TT Rockstars and Numbots Tea Party, held each Friday with Mrs Clarke our headteacher, to celebrate the children for their work on Maths. Well done to all the children who have attended so far. We look forward to seeing different faces this week!
Y6 visit to the Mosque

The Year 6 Children enjoyed a trip to the London Islamic Cultural Society and Mosque; our local Mosque. The children learnt lots of interesting facts about the mosque and Islam and they also had a tour of the mosque.
Alexandra Primary Choir to the O2

Alexandra Choir to the O2 On Tuesday 30th January 2024, our wonderful choir took part in a concert at the O2 with the Young Voices, the largest children's choir in the world. It was a fabulous day - full of song, dance, joy and a number of Mexican waves. It really was a fantastic experience for us all and Ms Clarke, Ms Kelly and Ms Kennedy were super impressed by how our children performed. Well done to our choir for representing Alexandra Primary School so well. And now, good news for other children at the school, we are recruiting for our choir so, if you are in Years 3,4,5 or 6, please do let your teacher know you are interested in joining. We meet every Thursday morning at 8am.
Y4 London Zoo Trip

Year 4 had an amazing day exploring London Zoo as part of our science "Animals, Including Humans" topic. From discovering the new baby gorilla to witnessing the swift penguins and majestic lions and tigers, it was an educational and fun-filled adventure for all!
Y5 Police Workshop

Y5 enjoyed a visit from the Met Police this week to discuss the law and what happens if the law is broken.
Viking Launch Day - Y4

On Viking Launch Day, year 4 transformed into a Norse adventure as children, donned in Viking attire, crafted shields and swords with creative fervour. The halls echoed with the spirit of Norse warriors, as students immersed themselves in a lively day of living like mighty Vikings.
Musical Club Sharing

As usual, we ended our Music Clubs on a high this year. Parents and carers came in and our students shared their musical learning with them. The Music Clubs have learnt a number of musical instruments including djembe drums, steel pans, ukulele and glockenspiels. Well done our musical maestros!
Y5 Art Club - Printing

Our Year 5 Art Club enjoyed printing last week. First they drew their design, then they used a pencil to carve out their design on the styrofoam and then they used a roller and printing ink to cover it. Finally, they printed their work. We all thoroughly enjoyed the process and were pleased with our results.
Y4 Science Workshop

Y4 took part in a science workshop on States of Matter. The children got the opportunity to explore different states and become scientists for the day. Kaleah - my favourite part of the workshop was when we went outside and put mentos into the fizzy drink and watched it explode into the air. Kaylan - I really enjoyed the workshop, it was so fun and engaging.
Year 2 Art Club

Our Year 2 children enjoyed Art Club that week and they created their own octopuses.
Voices for the Future

The second year of our Voices for the Future drama project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, has started. Georgie Montgomery, our new drama practitioner from Collage Arts, has begun to work with the teachers and children in Year 2 Chile Class and Year 3 Argentina Class. The project aims to build the confidence of our teachers to use drama to help children explore issues around racism and develop their oracy.
Black History Month - Turks and Caicos Island

As we embrace the spirit of Black History Month, the Year 6 students at Alexandra Primary School embarked on a fascinating journey into the vibrant culture and history of the Turks and Caicos Islands. One special highlight of this incredible exploration was a captivating presentation by Ms Maureen Clarke, one of our Y6 parents shared her personal experiences and stories, providing a unique and inspiring insight into life in Turks and Caicos. Ms Clarke also treated the children to some mouth-watering sweetcorn fritters, a taste of the delicious cuisine from the Turks and Caicos.
A Little Surreal

In Art Club last week, we discussed the work of Pablo Picasso and the portraits he did. We expressed opinions about his work and discussed which we preferred and why. We then created our own surreal portraits using chalk pastels on different coloured sugar paper.

After a long day at the coast yesterday, we decided to have a cosy film night in our pjs as a final night treat! We are up packing now, ready to go on our mountain walk before we make our way home! See you soon!
Y6 Pendarren Residential Trip

All groups went out today for their coastal experience. We started by exploring the rock pools and managed to find a few crabs, shrimp and lots of seaweed! We then walked along the coast to the next bay. We were then free to splash in the waves and play football on the beach! Tonight we will be packing to return home tomorrow and partying at the disco!
Y4 Trip to London Mithraeum

Year 4 children enjoyed their trip to London Mithraeum yesterday to explore the ancient Roman temple. Thanks to our parents and carers for your help and support on this trip.
Y6 Pendarren Residential Trip

The children had a fun filled day yesterday with their exciting activities. Last night they went for a night-time walk and today they are all looking forward to their coastal day. They had a visitor yesterday, Mrs Clarke the headteacher!!

The children in their groups were busy climbing the wall and abseiling, zip lining and canoeing. They also had a great time conducting a river study. They faced their fears and climbed through caves and explored waterfalls! They spent the evening enjoying the scenery, playing outside!

Our Y6 children arrived safely yesterday and were divided into groups for their activities. Some group went bushcrafting, making a den and cooking a sugared apple on the fire! The other group went canoeing.
Dr Bike

On Wednesday 27th September we had Dr Bike visiting our school. We were very lucky to have a mechanic to repair all of our damaged bikes free of charge. We can now all ride to and from school safely and happily. Thank you Dr Bike!🚲
Roald Dahl Day

The children had lots of fun celebrating Roald Dahl Day by reading The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me. Then we created our own giraffe faces using a paper plate and paint!
Art Gallery

We Are Artists! We created our very own Art Gallery at school today to celebrate all the amazing creativity of our students. One creation was made by the whole school - a rainbow made of the thumbprint of every student; then each class created a class piece of work to celebrate working together; and also each child created their own piece of art, inspired by different artists. Well done everyone at Alexandra, you really all are artists!
Summer Fair

We were delighted that our Summer Fair on Saturday 24th June was so well attended and was such a success.
SPORT DAY

Recently at Alexandra Primary, we held our annual Sports Day, over two mornings on Wood Green Common. There were lots of different events for everyone to enjoy. Whether children won or lost, everyone had great fun participating and felt a sense of joy and achievement. It was wonderful for our school community to come together, creating a magnificent atmosphere. The eagerly anticipated mums, dads’ and family members races did not disappoint. The staff race was also extremely competitive!
Musical Showcases

Musical Magic Last week, we celebrated our music at our Musical Showcases . On Thursday morning, it was Years 1 & 2 performed and then, in the afternoon, it was Year 5's turn. Finally, to finish off the week, it was the turn of Years 3 & 4. All of the showcases were delightful and served to highlight our love of music at Alexandra Primary. Thank you to parents and carers for coming, thank you to our wonderful, dedicated specialist music teacher, Ken, but, most of all, thank you to the stars of the show - all of our students. Well done everyone. .
Nursery visit to Wood Green Library
Y3 - Design and Technology

Glorious Greenhouses In our Design & Technology this term, year 3 are designing and creating mini-greenhouses. This week, we explored how we might create the greenhouses by exploring different materials and how we joined them. We tried to make our structures strong and stable and explored different materials to use as a covering for them. In our next D & T lesson, we will be using the technical knowledge we gained today to design our greenhouses, identifying the materials we will use and how to join them.
Art Club -Little Sculptors

Little Sculptors At Art Club this week, we discussed different examples of silver sculptures. Then, we discussed what it means to belong and the fact that in order to belong, we have to belong to ourselves. Ms Kennedy suggested that this means that we celebrate our own uniqueness. She therefore gave us the challenge of creating sculptures of ourselves which represent ourselves. Here are some of our mini creations. Can you guess what we used to sculpt them? Reception class - Growing Plants

The children in reception have been exploring the topic of 'Growing' They have been exploring the different parts of a plant. The children also took part in an experiment to see how water travels up a plant. They created a solution using food colouring and water and placed some flowers in the different coloured solutions. After 1 day the petals began to change colour - the children were fascinated!
Reception Trip To Alexandra Palace

Reception visited Alexandra Palace earlier this month. The children had great fun exploring the different types of travel they noticed on the trip. They also enjoyed playing in the park and having a very lovely picnic on the grass. Thank you to all of the families who supported on the trip.
Y2 Cinema Visit

Y2 visited the cinema on Wednesday 24th May to celebrate their hard work during the SAT’s assessments. They watched Super Mario Bro’s and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Y2 Science Lesson

Y2 really enjoyed exploring different materials during their science lesson this week. They investigated the best material for a ball to bounce the highest. They then made conclusions from their results.
Art Club - Cockatoo Fun!

Over the last few weeks, Art Club have worked hard to create cockatoos to celebrate the work of the author and illustrator, Quentin Blake, in his book 'Cockatoos'. Each of us have created an armature, covered it in paper mache, painted it and then, today, we completed them by putting feathers on them. Don't they look fantastic? There were a few sad faces when I reminded art club members that they couldn't take their birds home... Because their cockatoos are flying off to our new library where they will help celebrate our love of books at Alexandra! Thank you to all art club members for their fantastically colourful birds.
Bolivia Trip to Roman Amphitheatre

Bolivia Class visited the Roman amphitheatre at the London Guildhall Art Gallery this week. We stepped down to street level in Roman times, learnt all about what happened in Roman amphitheatres and had the chance to explore different artefacts from those times. We even had the chance to act out our very own gladiatorial event - with an Emperor, an Empress, a solider, a umpire and two gladiators and a whole bunch of spectators. What a great day of learning.
Y6 Lion King Trip

I have attached some photos from last night's Lion King trip for the newsletter and website. 'Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the West End and watch The Lion King in preparation for their own performance at the end of the year! The children were amazed to see the classic story brought to life on stage. They were glued to the stage from the minute the show began to the end!' -"The makeup and costumes really brought out the characters. After the show had ended and we left the theatre, I was absolutely mesmerised." - Lili -"I loved the show because it was full of joy and excitement and I loved the songs and animals. Nursery class creativity

Over the past half term, we have enjoyed learning all about terrific travel. We have made our very own buses, trains, aeroplanes and boats using creative materials , and have also learnt about the importance of walking to school. We have learnt about different festivals, and celebrated Eid by baking delicious chocolate chip cookies. We have enjoyed spending a lot more time outdoors, enjoying the beautiful weather. We have engaged in water and sand play, as well as using large outdoor climbing equipment.
Year 6 Photography Walking Trip

The Y6 children learnt photography techniques such as the rule of thirds and the significance of colour. We learnt that the the rule of thirds is a type of composition in which an image is divided evenly into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, and the subject of the image is placed at the intersection of those dividing lines, or along one of the lines itself. We explored our local community and captured images that reflected our interests. It was interesting to capture several shots of an object to choose the best image. - Soumaya I thought that going to explore our community had high impact because I got to see my local area from a different perspective. - Matthew I liked holding the camera. - Yigit I managed to take a picture of an Audi (my dream car) while it was driving quickly past. Costa Rica ICT Lesson

The children have developed their mouse, keyboard, scrollbar and drag drop skills and can now successfully form sentences using the notes app.
Walk to school challenge

The children were visited from the walk to school mascot and discussed the importance of walking to school
Voices for the Future Performance

Alexandra Primary have benefitted from Paul Hamlyn Foundation funding this year. The focus of the work has been using the creative arts to promote oracy within our school, helping our teachers to feel confident in these areas. We have been fortunate to have Roberta Livingston coming in on a weekly basis to work with our Year 3 teachers and classes, leading drama hour long drama sessions. To celebrate this work, each class held a performance at our Collage Arts, a leading arts charity, in their drama studio. The children sang, rapped, acted and mimed. What a treat it was to see the pride and confidence they had in their performance. Well done Year 3. And thank you to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation for making this all possible. Y5 and Y6 Musical Showcase

WE ARE MUSICIANS! Years 5 and 6 celebrated there love of music with their families on the last day of term. The morning was full of musical joy. We enjoyed performances by our orchestra, our choir, and our Year 5 classes performed on the guitar and our year 6 classes performed on the violin. The parents and carers also joined in on Ken’s special fruity song. Finally, all the children sang ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and our school song, ‘Aspire, Achieve, Enjoy’.
Bolivia Class are Scientists

In Science this week, we continued our work on magnets and explored how they can both repel and attract. We then investigated the strengths of different types of magnets. We love science!
STEM Week - Peru class building structures

This week the children in Peru class have enjoyed creating structures using carboard materials, masking tape, scissors, glue and collage materials. We have built houses, towers, castles and landmarks.
Carbon Go Green Project

Our Whole School Council participated in creating a film this week to promote recycling in Haringey. They worked with a camera man and a director from the local arts organisation, Collage Arts, to talk about Pram Depot, an organisation they had visited the week before. Pram Depot is an arts-led recycling project which provides Baby Boxes filled with high quality recycled baby cloths and equipment to vulnerable new mums and their babies. Occupational Therapy: Parent Sensory processing and behaviour Seminar

The Haringey Occupational Therapy team are offering a free virtual Parent information session, discussing sensory differences and behaviour.
Compass directions

We had lots of fun in Argentina class this week! We spent some time getting to understand compass directions and then we went out into the playground and instructed our team members to go to different locations in the playground using compass directions only.
Colombia Class - Pancake day

Colombia class celebrated pancake day with a special breakfast. We enjoyed the yummy snack and got lots of energy for our day😊.
Science Experiment - Y5 Venezuela Class

We conducted our Science experiment lesson last week and investigated how different materials dissolve and react in water. It was great fun!
Venezuela Class PE Lesson

The children had a great time exploring the different climbing apparatus and for some of them, it was the very first time that they used this equipment. Our PE days are on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Colombia class - studying our teeth

This week we in pshce we have been studying our teeth and the importance in looking after them. We did an experiment where we used egg shells to represent our teeth. We left the egg shells in different drinks including juice, coke and water to see the effect they have on our teeth. We made predictions and then waited. The following day, we noticed the juice egg shell had turned a purple/silver colour, the coke had turned the egg shell brown and the water had stayed the same. Arjin - We really enjoyed this experiment as we could relate to it and now understand the impact different drinks have on our teeth. Mahad - we also discussed how it is ok to drink these drinks occasionally, just not every day. It’s all about making the right choices. Maria - from now on, I will be choosing water for my drink with dinner and brushing my teeth twice a day with a pee sized amount of toothpaste.
Chinese New Year Celebration - Reception Children

Reception enjoyed exploring and celebrating Chinese New Year. The children explored Chinese dancing, songs, stories and food! The children watched a video on how to make Chinese stir fry, they then created a list of ingredients in their literacy lesson. The children washed and cut the vegetables. They then used chopsticks to eat their delicious meal. The stir fry was a big hit - the children thoroughly enjoyed it
Chinese New Year Celebration - Nursery Children

Last week Nursery have been learning all about the celebration of Chinese New year. We have painted beautiful cherry blossom trees using paint and tissue paper, we also made noodles using string and scissors. We also had the opportunity to taste the delicious savoury snack prawn crackers, made our very own Chinese lanterns and we explored texture and colour using coloured rice.
How much do you know about Autism?

The NHS England 'Autism in Schools Project' is currently underway with 20 pilot schools in the London Region. As part of the project, the National Network of Parent Carer Forums would like to invite parents to a series of FREE online training and information events to help support autistic pupils at home and in school. KS2 Music Club

Last Friday, we invited parents and carers in to share in the musical learning of the KS2 Music Club. We were in for a real treat - glockenspiel, ukuleles, djembe drums and steel drums were all played. Ken then invited parents, carers and siblings to come and have a go and our students became their music teachers. It was a real celebration of musical learning. Well done everyone.
School closure - update

Dear Alexandra children and families, We miss you today and hope you are keeping warm. We are busy clearing the snow in the playground and hope we will all be back at school tomorrow and can enjoy Xmas lunch together. SCHOOL CLOSURE - 12th December

Monday 12th December: Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions and staff shortages the school will be closed today for all children.
Year 5 trip to St Michael's Church

Fr Ian Booth was very impressed with how Year 5 behaved in and around the church. He spoke to us about the Christmas story, why it is a special time for Christians and the different seasons that Christianity has. Dylan was chosen to light the candles on the advent wreath! We also learnt that the pictures on the windows of a church is called a poor person's bible because in the past people did not go to school unless they were really rich. The pictures on the windows would help to tell stories about Jesus to people that could not read. The children also asked lots of impressive questions about God and Jesus and made personal links to other religions. Fr Ian also said that the children are a credit to the staff at Alexandra and he is more than willing to have us again at Easter.
Music Club

Musical Magic Our lovely KS1 Music Club attendees shared their musical learning with their parents and carers this afternoon. Our fabulous music teacher, Ken, led the children as they showcased their musical learning this term. This included playing the drums, glockenspiels and ukuleles. What fabulous musicians!
INTO Film Festival

Years 2 to 6 have greatly enjoyed participating in the INTO Film festival this year. Each year group has had (or will have) a free visit to a local cinema to enjoy a film. Year 3 loved visiting the VUE, Wood Green, to watch 'Lyle Lyle Crocodile'.
Year 5 - Venezuela

In RE we have been learning about the importance of light to Christians at Christmas. We followed instructions and made Christingles. The children really enjoyed this activity.
Mexico Class

Science in Mexico Class We explored the digestive system and how it works. We used bags, cups, stockings, cereal and Juice to show the journey of food throughout our body. The children loved wearing goggles and lab coats and we have learnt how our body works. PE This term in Mexico class we have been playing problem solving. the focus of the lesson is to look at what makes an effective team with the focus on cooperation and responsibility. The children worked and cooperated in their teams to complete different challenges; cooperation, cross river and place the pen challenges.
Oliver's Vegetable

This week we our focus text is 'Oliver's Vegetables'. We have been learning all about healthy and unhealthy foods, and about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. We have enjoyed printing with vegetables and paint to create beautiful pictures, as well as scrubbing and washing vegetables in preparation to make vegetable soup. We have opened up a fruit and vegetable market in the role play area, where the children have been acting as customers and cashiers.
Getting in the Festive Spirit

The Royal Institution Science Show

The Royal Institution presented a fascinating science show all about Energy. Pupils participated in immersive demonstrations that included fire, smoke and loud bangs! Pupils also learnt about the different types of energy types such as: kinetic, thermal, electrical, chemical, nuclear, motion, sound and elastic. “I liked that the show was so interactive! Help children stay safe on chat apps

Messaging and chat apps are a great way for a child to stay in touch with their friends and family but it’s important both of you are comfortable with who they’re talking to. Talk to your child about who they’re chatting to and how they know them. Remind them to be conscious of who they’re sharing personal information with and not to share information with people they haven’t met before. This includes information like their name, location, email, phone number and school name. Ancient Egyptian Masks

Last half term, Year 3 loved learning about the Ancient Egyptians. As part of this, we learn all about Ancient Egyptian Death Masks and why Egyptians created them. We then created our own out of masks, cardboard, masking tape and mod roc. Do you like them?
Art Club - Big Draw

We have been celebrating The Big Draw Festival at school this week. Therefore, in art club, we read the book that our Big Draw week is based on, 'Say Something' by Peter H. Reynolds. Then, we discussed ideas about what we want to say. Following that, we set up big pieces of paper in the hall and all drew what we wanted to say. Alexandra Palace Park

We walked to the park and then used magnifying glasses to try and locate minibeasts. We successfully found spiders, worms, caterpillar's, fly's and ants! The children then had a picnic and play in the park before heading back to school. The children really enjoyed looking for minibeasts and could describe the environment they had found each minibeast. A big thank you to our parent volunteer's for helping today!
Nursery: The 5th November

This week Early Years have been learning all about why we celebrate The 5th November. We have watched fireworks displays from all over the world, then used these images as inspiration to create our very own firework pictures. We have shared the story of Guy Fawkes and had a bonfire, in which we shared campfire songs and enjoyed drinking hot chocolate.
Global Citizenship - MP Visit

Year 6 were visited by our local MP, Catherine West, to support their learning of global citizenship as part of our PSHCE curriculum. Catherine explored the term global citizenship and together they considered how we as a country, being part of the United Nations supports this. The children then considered how we can be global citizens to support the climate change crisis globally and they presented their proposals to parliament. Kidzania Visit

The Year 6 pupils went to KidZania to explore STEAM activities and careers. They applied their knowledge learnt in the classroom in a practical environment which helped develop the skills needed for the world of work – from resilience to teamwork and problem solving. "The setting was hands on and immersive". Sarah "I liked out trip because the jobs were realistic to the jobs in real life. It is really unique that you get paid money on a KidZania credit card and can buy things with it". Nabiha "What I found interesting is that you get issued a credit card. When you do a job, you get points and that is your salary. With the money you have on your account, you can buy items". - Lili I really enjoyed taking care of the animals. Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, reception have been exploring different types of fruits and vegetables from Africa and the Caribbean. The children tasted plantain chips and learnt how plantain chips are made. The children enjoyed the plantain chips very much, wanting second servings of the delicious snack.
Year 3 are rocking science!

In Science, Year 3's topic is Rocks. We have been thoroughly enjoying being scientists - we have been predicting, investigating, observing and drawing conclusions. This week, we have been learning about soil and how important it is to support life. Today, we made observations about what we could see in the soil we looked at. Then, we classified what we found into different groups - what is alive, what has been alive and what has never been alive. Following that, we made predictions about what would happen when we mixed the soil with water. Finally, we mixed the soil with water and observed what happened. We have left our mixtures on the windowsill in our classroom and will make observations when we come into school again. What a great science lesson.
Paraguay's Red Hot Chilli

This week the children have been exploring the story, Lima's Red Hot Chilli. They explored their sense of taste and learnt about different types of food and they had a try of tasting a red hot chilli! First they smelt the pepper. They were all so brave and chose a small piece of chilli to try. After they tried the chilli, everybody realised that it was not in fact a hot chilli but a sweet chilli pepper!
Owl Babies

This week the children in Nursery have been learning all about the story Owl Babies. The children have been busy using Lego and Duplo to build a warm and cosy home for the owl family to live in. We have also been creating our very own owl baby collages using printing sponges, white paint, glue, googly eyes and feathers. During circle time have been speaking about our own families and other people who are important to us and why.
Haringey Libraries "Words are our friends"

International Evening - Friday 4th November

We will be holding an International Evening to celebrate cultural diversity across Alexandra Primary. Mexico Class - Greek Pots

Mexico class have been studying Greek pots. Greek pots are important because they tell how life was in Athens and other ancient cities. This week we explored using clay and making a clay pot using the pinch pot and the coil techniques.
Reading Road Map Launch - Year 6

The Haringey Reading Road Map has been launched in Year 6. Every child will get to read the variety of books over the year and each child will receive a certificate for important milestones. Both classes got to experience a book tasting event, exploring 60 different titles. The children were so engaged and excited, you could feel the love of reading spread around the room. After the book tasting, each table presented their top 3 choices to the rest of the class. We can't wait to get reading!
Art Club

Today, in Art Club, we looked at the work of Ted Harrison. We used his work as inspiration for our own work, using water colours to create our colourful paintings.
Jeans for Genes Day

On Friday 23rd September 2022 we celebrated Jeans for Genes Day. During this day we came to school wearing our jeans and raised money for the Jeans for Genes charity. We also spend time discussing the importance of understanding genetic diseases and how we can help. We raised £208.33, well done Team Alexandra!
Author Event

Years 4, 5 and 6 were extremely lucky to experience a virtual author event with Hannah Gold and Nicola Penfold. Both authors have written books focused on climate change and were speaking today about how we can use fiction to spread the important messages to protect our planet. Cherry: I enjoyed the author event because they spoke a lot about animals and the importance of reading! I like how we have the books by these authors in school so we can make links to what they were telling us Giorgio: I enjoyed how we got to meet the authors and read a page of their books. I really liked how Nicola wrote her stories in a shed because no-one would come in and you would get peace and quiet and comfy! Hannah: I enjoyed how the authors told us about how they became writers and what inspired them to write. I think this is a great way to show others how you can become writers. Ayoub: I enjoyed how they discussed their books. I have read the lost whale and I loved it. I also liked how the books have friendships between the animals and humans.
Art Club

ART CLUB IS BACK The class was full with keen artists this afternoon, all ready with their creative ideas. We discussed what art means to us and then what art we like, giving reasons for our opinions. Then, we had to be creative - we used sketching pencils, charcoal and chalk pastels to create our own masterpieces. We are all excited for the term to come and the artists, art techniques and art materials we will discover and explore.
Peddle my Wheels

Haringey council have partnered with a charity called Peddle My Wheels to offer anyone working, living or studying in Haringey the chance to rent a bike and start cycling. The scheme offers cycles for adults and children, as well as ebikes and cargo bikes. You simply follow the link: https://www.peddlemywheels.com/ and select the bike you wish, you then pay a monthly fee for the bike and can renew it each month for up to 6 months . If at the end of the 6 months you want to buy your new bike the monthly payments you've made will be deducted from the final cost. The monthly payments start from £30 per month and increase depending on the style of bike you chose. Included in the monthly fee, you also get rechargeable lights, a lock, mudguard and a helmet.
We are Sculptors!

Today, we discovered the work of Anthony Gormley. Then, we worked in pairs to quickly sketch each other in three different poses. Finally, we used tin foil to create sculptures of each other. Do you like them?
Voices for the Future

Haringey Community Press Six Haringey Schools and partnership of local arts organisations awarded £144,000 by Paul Hamlyn Foundation for anti-racism arts project Voice for the Future Launch date September 2022 Voices for the Future aims to embed creativity and anti-racist practice in six primary schools in Haringey through teacher development. Led by Alexandra Primary School, Collage Arts and Haringey Creates, the project was awarded a total of £144,882 and will run over two years. An additional five primary schools in Haringey will take part in the project: Rokesly Junior School, Earlsmead, Lancasterian, The Willow and West Green Primary school. The partnership and collaboration will explore ways in which artists and teachers can work together to develop an antiracist led, arts-based approach to teaching and learning. It will explore how this can approach could help address the gap in global majority children’s attainment in Haringey. The project aims to provide teachers with the skills and confidence to deliver inclusive arts-based learning across the curriculum. Underpinned by a focus on care and wellbeing, artist practitioners and teachers will co- create and embed a multi-disciplinary arts-based approach to teaching and learning with a particular focus on improving oracy and diversifying the curriculum. The project was developed following a successful partnership between Alexandra Primary school and Collage Arts who took part in Haringey Creates’ networking programme for schools and arts organisations. Voices for the Future will see drama, dance practitioners and visual artists from Collage Arts partner with teachers from each of the primary schools for the duration of the two-year project. Working on average once a week with their teacher partners over the first year, the artists will bring a wealth of new skills and knowledge and help extend the breadth and depth of curriculum reference materials. At the same time the artists will learn from the teachers and the pupils to enrich their practice. As the year goes on, the teachers supported by the artists will demonstrate their learning in the development of an end of year showcase. This process will be repeated again in the second year with less support from the artists enabling the teacher and their colleagues to lead on the creative elements, working towards a final grand celebration, bringing all six schools together to share learning and practice, hosted by Alexandra Palace. Voices for the Future will test out how creativity can help to support the embedding of anti-racist practice, leading to greater confidence in teachers to approach each of their subjects in new, engaging, and inclusive ways. Alexandra's Dare to Invent Day

Our creative juices were flowing at Alexandra yesterday as we all joined in on the Artsmark's Day To Create. Children of all ages participated in DARE TO INVENT - a day full of invention. We tried to look at things from a different perspective, with the goggles we made, and we came up with solutions to anything, from how to get home, getting from the classroom to the playground and how to make our playground even more fun. Healthy Smoothies & Snacks

This week year 5 have been making healthy smoothies and snacks. We started of by identifying the different food groups in our recipes and establishing what makes the recipe healthy. We then used a range of skills including chopping, measuring and blending to create scrumptious smoothies and cereal bars. The children thoroughly loved these lessons and enjoyed being creative. Armani - I really enjoyed this lesson because we got to work together to create a smoothie and cereal bars. It was good working in a team to create this. Naima - I made a smoothie with my partner. I enjoyed making the smoothie because we got to learn the step by step process to making a smoothie which I didn’t know before. I didn’t really like my smoothie as I don’t like banana but I will change this next time I make the recipe.
Art Club Celebration

Art Club has been very popular this year, with around 20 Year 5s and Year 6s attending each week. For our final week today, we finished work on our backdrops and created a cave for the Year 6 production of Aladdin. We also took home of the wonderful art medals we made for ourselves out of clay. Do you like them? On a different note, we are sad to see our Year 6 Art Club members leave but we know they will carry on their creative journey in secondary school and wish them every success.
Year 6 - Junior Citizenship

Year 6 attended the Junior Citizenship at Bounds Green Scout Park. The children attended different stations where they explored scenarios and learned how to deal and manage situations. The children worked closely with the police, fire brigade, TFL staff and Gang Prevention team to learn vital skills required to protect themselves both at home and out in public. Pupil Voice: I enjoyed this trip as it was very interesting learning about all the different services and how they can help us, such as the fire brigade and police. - Josie I like how we got to find out what jobs there are and what they do. I also liked how we learned how to be safe on the bus, tube, in a fire and around strangers. I and a fun time. - Maryam. I enjoyed the trip as it informed me about how to behave in different situations. I now understand what to do if the fire alarm goes off in my house. I enjoyed the Junior Citizenship as it was very interactive, it allowed us to get involved and see real life situations and educated us on how to behave. - Harry I learned a lot of life lessons today - Charlotte.
Walking Bear Challenge

Reception and Nursery have been taking part in the walking bear challenge this half term. The children take it in turns to take home the walking bear and then they write a diary entry based on their journey to and from school with the bear. This is to encourage active travel in EYFS and remind children of the fun they can have when travelling sustainably.
Year 4 - Science Museum Trip

On Thursday, Year 4 had a fabulous trip to the Science Museum. First, we visited the 'Secret Life Of The Home' exhibition which allowed us to explore the development of appliances in the home, particularly looking at how electricity has helped us. Then, we had the all important lunch! We finished the day by visiting two other exhibitions where we saw old-fashioned carriages, old style cars, models of boats, big machinery, space ships, rockets and, at the end, we gathered around a planet which changed, as we watched it, from the earth, to the moon, to the sun! What a fantastic day out. Here's what some of the children said: "It felt like a good treat to go on the trip. It was fun pressing all the buttons in the exhibition. I learnt things that I never knew before. I also enjoyed the packed lunch." Elion "I think the trip was good because we learnt lots of things and I also got to see the objects that people used when there wasn't any electricity and they looked really different to the things we use today." Anhar "Today was so fun. When we clicked the bottons, things started to move. When we were gathered around the moon, it kept changing colours." Niki "I thought the moon was actually floating but then I looked closely and I saw it was being held up by wires." Hareeshan "I liked the trip because we played games on the train and when we went to the museum, we saw a bunch of science stuff and old fashioned cars and rockets." Deyvid "I enjoyed how the planet changed - it went from being the moon, to being the earth and then to being the sun." Ayman "I liked looking at the old things." Drama Club and Reading Trip to the Wolf production

Children in Year 5 who attend drama club and a part of a reading group were invited to watch a performance of 'Wolf', an adaptation of the traditional tale Three Little Pigs at McQueen's Theatre. It was an amazing show, they were such good dancers! - Adama I had the best time, I really enjoyed the show! - Hayden
Panama Class - Library Visit

Panama class visited Woodgreen Library. They walked beautifully with their partners, walking sensibly, and carefully on the way to the library. At the library they had a tour, they joined in with some songs, explored lots of books and then made a wonderful craft sculpture of a chick. The children had a great time.
Year 5 - Author Event

Year 5 experienced a virtual author event with Phil Earle. He explained how he became a published author and the battle he faced as a young boy, growing to love reading. The session was also an opportunity to hear Phil read extracts from his books: 'When the Sky Falls' and 'When the Storm Rages'. Pupil voice: I have enjoyed listening to you because when I’m older I might become an author of comic books or even novel books - Teo I love reading When The Sky Falls because I could just read it and get lost in it. I sadly finished it and am now waiting for my teacher to finish While The Storm Rages. I’ve only read one of Phil's books but I am already hooked- Ollie The event encouraged me to read more often, even though I don't always enjoy reading - Musab The event was so good, it has inspired me to write my own book one day - Elisha
Healthy Eating Week

Last week was healthy eating week. During this week, all classes across the school educated children on the importance of eating healthy. We discussed the importance of a well balanced diet and built meal plans to ensure they where aware of the nutritious requirements. The children then went away and created a Healthy Eating Poster which are displayed around school.
Year 5 - Invisible Dog

Year 5 watched a performance by Haringey Shed called The Invisible Dog, exploring mental health. The children engaged with a workshop following the performance, engaging with the actors to explore strategies to support our mental health, friends who is affected by mental health and who to seek support from if they need it (trusted adults). Pupil Voice: I liked how they inspired others to share their emotions with trusted adults (Nabiha) I enjoyed how interactive it was as they let us participate in activities and some children even came and performed (Mohammed) The performance reminded me of our book The Lost Whale as Rio's mum also had a mental health issue and he was unaware of this until his friends told him (Melissa) I liked how they encouraged JJ to write his worries in a journal, this will also encourage others to do this (Soumaya)

Panama - Solar System Project

Antoni has completed his half term project on the solar system. He created a wonderful 3D model of all of the planets in our solar system, using recyclable materials such as; card board, lolly sticks, and paper. Antoni has been fascinated by the Solar system, when he grows up he aspires to be an astronaut for NASA.
Nursery Update

Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning all about wild animals. We have been using green paint, googly eyes, tissue paper and paper plates to create African tree frogs. We have also been practising name writing. The children trace/copy the letters of their name and are beginning to identify the initial letter and letter sounds of their names. Our focus story this week is 'Jack and the Beanstalk' which ties in with our termly topic of growth. The children enjoyed using spades and plant pots to plant magic beans just like Jack, in the hope of growing a giant beanstalk.

Year 1 - holiday homework

Over the holidays, year one have been busy researching different weather conditions and seasonal patterns in the UK while also looking at hot and cold regions around the world. The children have created weather reports, weather charts, and have created 3D models of their favourite weather and the weather cycle. The children have also had the opportunity to act as Alexandra's weather presenter every morning this week to inform their class of the expected weather conditions for the day!
Year 5 - Book Awards

Year 5 have been taking part in a Book Awards competition where they have read 6 different books, written reviews and eventually voted for their top 3 choices. This week, some of the Year 5 children discussed the books with Year 4, recommending their favourite. Year 4 will have the opportunity to participate in the competition next year! Marcus - I really enjoyed VI:Spy by Maz Evans as it was full of twists and turns and every time I would go to bed I was left in a cliff-hanger! Nabiha - I liked The Boy Who Met a Whale by Nizrana Farook as it was an astonishing adventure with a mysterious characters!
Colombia - Art Lesson

In art we have been making animal head armatures which we will paint - this is for our sculptures topic.
Chile Class - Technology in History

Move More Taster Sessions

Move More Taster Sessions (virtual) – delivered by One You Haringey (as part of the Spring Stride 2022) Web address for more info: https://www.oneyouharingey.org/spring-stride/ Sessions: 1 - Fri 13th May – 11am 2 - Weds 18th May – 11am 3 - Fri 27th May – 11am Description: One You Haringey are delivering some ‘Move More’ virtual taster sessions aimed at parents, to help promote a whole-family approach to physical activity. Although this is linked to the Spring Stride primary school exercise competition, the sessions are open to anyone in Haringey. Taster sessions will last for 45 minutes. Session 1: Sit & Strengthen - Fri 13th May – 11am Seated exercise to improve your muscle strength and endurance and maintain good posture. The session also helps with shaping legs, tummy, arm, back and shoulders. We will incorporate light weights, but the session can be done without weights. Session 2: Body Flow - Weds 18th May – 11am Stretch, lengthen and relax the body to reduce stiffness, increase flexibility and bloody flow in order to feel energised! Session 3: Strength & Condition - Fri 27th May – 11am Improve muscle strength and endurance, maintain good posture and shape your legs, tummy, arms, chest, back and shoulders. Year 5 - Royal Observatory Visit

Year 5 visited The Royal Observatory - Greenwich on Tuesday 3rd May. The children got to watch a show in London's only planetarium, which they were extremely enthused about. Tommy said, "It was amazing, it felt like the whole room was moving and when it zoomed to the other planets, I thought they were going to crash into us!" They also received a workshop from a very enthusiastic leader, who taught them all about the Earth, Sun and Moon! Anas and Hayden learnt that there's 86,400 seconds in each day (which is also how long it takes the Earth to spin on it's axis). If you would like to learn some facts about our Solar System, come and ask a member of Year 5!
Chile Sculptures

This half term we are learning about sculpture. We made paper sculptures by weaving looping and folding different coloured paper onto a white piece of card. We also made a hollow paper mache sculptures with tissue paper and pva glue. We have also started making our own animal head sculptures and will complete this in the coming weeks.
Parents Letter from Haringey Public Health

A letter from Haringey Public Health, relating to an increase in Hepatitis (liver inflammation) cases in young children which is currently under investigation. Almost all of the cases have been seen in children under 10, with most cases aged between 2 and 5 years. Hepatitis letter_050522 (002 - WM)
School Junior Travel Ambassadors

Year 4 and 5 took part in whole class presentations to vote for the best candidate for our school's Junior Travel Ambassadors. After a number of excellent presentations our JTA's were assigned. Well done to Ayoub Ghazi (Y4), Dylan Smith (Y4), Wasim Chaib (Y5) and Sarah Kerrigan-Illarramendi (Y5). These children will be working alongside Miss Sudworth to plan and deliver activities, assemblies and competitions across the school as part of our Healthy Schools Initiative. From Monday 9th May until Friday 27th May, our school will be participating in The Spring Stride competition. Many of our children's weight and physical fitness have been impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns. Nationally, rates of obesity among reception year children have increased from 23.0% to 27.7% from 2019/20 to 2022/21. Among Year 6 children, this figure has increased from 35.2% to 40.9%. It is important to encourage children to participate in regular physical activity to promote good health and fitness. The benefits of exercise can also be seen in the classroom with improved concentration, memory function and self-esteem. We will compete with other primary schools in Haringey to do 3 weeks of physical activity, our school will be scored on how frequently pupils participate in physical activity and the variety of activity they do. This can be encouraged at home, by engaging in physical activities such as: playing in the park, going for walks and riding a bike.
Choir at Young Voices Concert

Alexandra Primary's choir had a wonderful day at the O2, performing with the largest school choir in the world, Young Voices. Eighteen members of the choir made the journey to the O2, spent the afternoon rehearsing and then an evening of performing. They sang and danced beautifully and the event was enjoyed by some of the parents of our choir.
Year 1 - Holiday Homework

The children have been busy over the Easter break creating their own plant models and naming them. This term, we will be making the most of the good weather to plan, observe and carry out experiments using real plants. As Historians, we will be exploring The Great Fire of London. The children have researched and created their own fact files and models of the significant event.
Healthy Wraps in Year 4

In our Design & Technology this term, we have focused on food - where it comes from, what is healthy for us and, today, we were learning food preparation techniques. We used different skills - spreading, peeling, chopping, slicing, grating - to create a health wrap. It was a delicious end to the week.
Art Club

This half term, we have used mud roc to sculpt our own models. Then, we painted them. It has been a brilliant creative process. Do you like them?
Junior Road Watch

Children from Year 5 and Year 6 went to Station Road to conduct a new road danger reduction scheme which aims to reduce speeding near schools with the Metropolitan Police. Station Road is currently 20mph, we used a speeding gun to monitor the speed of cars driving on this road, anyone driving over the 20mph we pulled over and they had two options: to take the penalty 6 points and a £100 fine or to have an educational talk with our children about the implications of speeding and reason behind Station Road being 20mph. In total, we pulled over 7 drivers driving above the speed limit. Once the Police completed the required checks, the children had the opportunity to talk to the drivers and educate them on this important matter. Cleo: "I really enjoyed using the speeding gun and stopping drivers who were driving too fast. I handed them a leaflet about speed awareness." Hayden: "I learned that people break the speed limit daily and it is important as a pedestrian to be aware of cars around you and make sure you look and listen constantly when by a road." Oskar: "I enjoyed working with the police officers and discussing the importance of sticking to the speed limit with the general public." Ruweyda: "I really enjoyed using the speed gun and measuring how fast people where travelling. I learned the consequences of driving over the speed limit."
STEAM Week - Peru

The children in Nursery looked at images of Tower bridge before having the chance to draw their own interpretation of Tower bridge on a large piece of paper as a whole class. The children then split off into two groups and used different kinds of building materials to bring their designs to life. The children were extremely proud to display their work around our classroom for all to see.
World Poetry Day

In Literacy, as a class, we had been working on Narrative Poetry so Yusuf took it upon himself to write this fantastic poem about the environment. Poem by Yusuf The Littered Land. The earth is a disgrace, We must stop the pollution we must embrace, The big, bright solution to make our earth a better place, We must get ready for the problems we have to face As.. The pollution is rising greeting the sky with a bright grey haze, The sky coughs and wheezes as the humans go about their days, The trash lies silent on the road giving the bins a silent gesture, And the dumps talking about mother earth saying, “well we messed her”. The polar bears complaining about their home melting away, it really shows the selfishness that we display, And people are out there dumping plastic in the vast ocean, It makes you think that the human heart is broken. And it doesn’t get better talking about trees, About how we chop down millions of them in a breeze, Trees produce vital oxygen for our daily function, So chopping that source down will lead to dysfunction. People lay in their homes complaining about the internet, Not knowing that the electricity powering their home is becoming a threat, But not all hope is lost, people are taking action, But we as humans have only done a fraction, of what we need to do. So we must work together to eradicate climate change, To be kind and to save our planet which we have deranged, Because the solution isn't in the earth or the bins it's in you, So come on let's save the earth that we grew. World Book Day at Alexandra

Thursday 3rd March 2022 At Alexandra Primary School, we celebrated 25 years of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. Every class across the school was fully immersed in the story through reading the book in our reading lessons, using it as a stimulus for our writing, designing and making our own hats and wands and even playing our own games of Quidditch! On World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite characters from Harry Potter, celebrated our favourite books and transformed our classrooms into museums, exhibiting our amazing learning we had produced. Assembly: Alexandra’s Reading Ambassadors from Years 4-6 shared their favourite books in assembly. The whole school then paraded in our fantastic costumes.
Celebration of Art

Our budding artists were hard at work last half term and we can now all enjoy their work as it is up on our communal art boards around the school. We know lots of you aren't able to come into school at the moment so we wanted to share the work with you here. Year 1 explored print-making, Year 2 created space collages, Year 3 discovered cave paintings, Year 4 produced sketches of birds on painted trees, Year 5 created collages of themselves as Tudor kings or queens and Year 6 were discovered different painting techniques each week.
Year 5 Update

Year 5 learned about emergency situations and how to react in those. We discussed the recovery position and practised with our partners.

UKS2 Phase Assembly

Year 5 have shown great perseverance in writing this week as well as solving difficult mixed number problems during maths. Year 6 have shown great perseverance during testing week this week and displayed pro-active behaviour sourcing and creating their own personalised reading journals.
Year 1 update

HOLIDAY H/W - Landmark models In Geography this term, we will be exploring famous landmarks around Britain. The children have been busy creating their own landmark models over the half term for the project. The children have also researched significant Landmarks around the world and have created a fact file! Science activity with skittles and lemonade To celebrate WBW, we used scientific methods to create a rainbow effect using Wizard skittles and lemonade! The children really enjoyed experimenting, predicting and being scientists. WBW pictures and visit to Yr 2 On Thursday, the children dressed up as a character in Harry Potter. The children looked amazing and loved showing off their outfits to the whole school during the parade. In the afternoon, the children visited Year 2 to explore their Harry Potter workshop. The children had a great time reading their diary entries and letters to each other. To enhance our love for reading, we also created masks to role play our favourite traditional tale!
World Book Day Activities

Chile Class completed a science experiment, making hats and wands to get ready for world book day on Thursday. They have really enjoyed these activities!
Puerto Rico science experiment

Puerto Rico conducted a science experiment for Professor Snape's potions class. We combined Powdered root of Asphodel (baking soda) with drops of horklump juice (food colouring) and added a bottle of wolfsbane (white vinegar) to create a potion. Year 6 - El Salvador

WOW Travel Tracker 2022

To promote active travel here at Alexandra we pledge to actively travel to school. What are the benefits of walking to school? Form of exercise and it keeps us healthy It’s great for our minds and bodies Opportunity to spend time with our families By walking we help reduce pollution Great for the planet What is Park & Stride? Park and Stride means parking the car 10 minutes away from school and walking the rest of the journey. This way you can still earn a badge! What does it mean to actively travel? It means you are using the power of your body to move yourself. Examples of 'active' travel are walking, cycling and scooting. Living Streets A leading charity that encourages children to walk to school. WOW Travel Tracker WOW is one of the UK's leading behaviour change initiatives, brought to you by Living Streets, the charity for everyday walking. This is a pupil-led initiative which will see children digitally record how they get to school everyday. If they travel sustainably (walk, wheel, cycle, scoot or Park & Stride) at least once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a WOW badge. Year 6 School Street Workshop To further promote this Y6 have took part on a School Street workshop. Here, Y6 actively gathered data within their local community focusing on Western way and The Common. The children identified key features using a tally chart and then had the opportunity to design and create their own version of a live school street. Using a range of materials, children creatively expressed what they would like to see more of in and around their local community.
Art & Team work in Year 4

Last half term, we explored collage, water colour paints and our sketching and shading skills to create this final piece of art - a mixed media portrayal of birds on a tree. To create the background, we used water colours and created different moods for our paintings. To create our birds, we practice our sketching skills and then explored shading them in different ways to create different effects. At the end of the topic, we created our very own gallery in our classrooms and wandered around it, appreciating each others art. Finally, we evaluated our own work and thought about what we liked best about our creations and how we could improve them if we were to make them again. We hope you like them! Teamwork in Year 4 Our focus in PSHCE last half term was teamwork. For our last two lessons, we worked in groups to design and create 'The Funniest Potato Man'. After we had created them, we then had to work as a group to present our 'Potato Man' to the rest of the class. The focus of these sessions was team work and we talked a lot about cooperation - what it means to cooperate with each other and why it is so important when we work in a group. The lessons were a lot of fun and we also learnt a lot. One thing puzzled us though - which potato man was the funniest? We couldn't decide. What do you think?
The Gingerbread Man

This week Nursery have been learning all about the traditional tale of The Gingerbread Man. We have designed our own gingerbread people and then made our designs come to life using playdough, rolling pins and cutters. We will be looking at what ingredients are needed to make gingerbread cookies and then we will be baking gingerbread cookies as a whole class at the end of the week.

Choir Performance UKS2 were very fortunate as they had the opportunity to watch the choir perform for the first time since their rehearsals. Reading Journals Please find pictures above showcasing children who have been consistently using their reading journal and displaying a love for reading. Starts of the Week These children have been selected as role model students who have displayed outstanding 'pride' not only in their work produced in lessons but through their actions across the school.
Science

El Salvador, as part of their Electricity Topic, tested the voltage of different batteries to see what effect it had on a light bulb. From their observations, they created a table and came up with the conclusion that the higher the voltage, the brighter the bulb. Here are photos of Julia's artwork. El Salvador, as part of their Painting Techniques Topic, looked at a variety of artists such as Ted Harrison, Georgia O'Keefe and Wasilly Kandinsky. Julia tested different colour combinations and then as her final piece, replicated a painting from Kandinsky.
Design & Technology

We are proud of the work we do in Design & Technology at Alexandra. Here we are, showcasing our work in the different year groups so we can all appreciate each others creations. In Year 1, we designed and created houses; in year 2, we designed and created freestanding structures - we focused on our playground; in year 3, we designed and created moving monsters - we made them move using a tubing and a balloon; in year 4, we designed and created vehicles that are moved by air - either by a sail or a balloon; in year 5, we designed and created our own bags or Christmas stockings; in year 6, we designed and create fairground rides.
Year 3 - Mental Health Week

We shared our ideas on how having a positive attitude helps us to learn more. We talked about how we can share our feelings and thoughts in a safe way.
National Storytelling Week

This week Alexandra Primary school have been celebrating National Storytelling Week. We had a fantastic literacy lesson on Monday exploring different ways of creating and retelling stories. Nursery - Traditional Tales

This half term Nursery's topic is Traditional Tales. This week we have been learning about the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed planting magic beans, painting pictures of giant beanstalks and building castles for the giant and his wife to live in.
Chinese New Year

The children in Early Years have had great fun celebrating Chinese New Year. They created their own Lanterns which can be thought to bring good fortune. They explored Chinese letters and traced different symbols. They also explored the year of their own Chinese zodiac!
Reception - Maths

The children in Reception have been exploring the 'Part, part whole model' a pictorial representation that supports children to understand the composition of numbers. The children created their own model using concert materials; hoops, counters and number cards. The children enjoyed making different quantities and completing the activity together with their peers.
Parent Survey Summary

Thank you for completing the recent Parent Survey. 49 families completed the survey online. Here are some of the headlines; 97% of parents said their child is happy at Alexandra Primary School 98% of parents said their child feels safe at Alexandra Primary School 97% of parents said the school makes them aware of what their child is learning 93% of parents said when they have raised a concern the school has dealt with it properly. We are currently looking into which aspects of our communication we need to develop. 97% of parents said their child does well at school Communication 65% of parents say they would like to be invited to more face to face meetings/workshops. Year 6 Update

During Science children were testing variables and identifying electrical conductors and insulators. Danny drew a self-portrait of Winston Churchill as his holiday homework and Ava created her own Spitfire plane. Congratulations to our Year 6 students who have achieved their challenge one in swimming. Essential swimming skills include being able to enter the water and exit safely and push & glide.
Argentina Class - Story maps

Argentina class made fantastic story maps of our new book. The Stone Age boy. We worked with our partners, taking turns to create pictures as well as writing key words to help us retell the story. They all worked very hard and produced wonderful collaborative work.
Art in Argentina Class

We explored using charcoal and chalks, as a lead up to creating our own cave paintings. We are learning all about the Stone Age this half term.
Venezuela PE lesson

Venezuela had a PE session today with Coach Jake. We did games outside which looked at teamwork and attacking skills. The children really enjoyed themselves and had a wonderful time and can't wait for next weeks session.
Haringey Celebrates Oscar's Art

The Mayor of Haringey runs an annual Christmas Card competition for all pupils at primary schools in Haringey. This year we are pleased to announce that our very own Oscar Yu, from Mexico Class in Year 4, has won. Therefore, this means that his picture is the image on the front of the Christmas cards that the Mayor of Haringey sends out. Well done, Oscar, we are so proud of you. Apparently, he will also be receiving a prize from the Mayor of Haringey.
Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week at Alexandra Primary! Kindness is more important today than it has ever been - this is why we have all committedly pledged to the 'One Kind Word' theme not just during anti-bullying week but throughout the school. Year 5 - The Big Draw

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed 'The Big Draw' last week. They worked collectively as a team to create a whole class painting based on the sky. The children used water colours and used a variety of mixing skills to ensure the colour they required was available. This beautiful painting is now displayed in our classroom for all children to see and be proud of.
